Facebook Platform

In May 2007, Facebook unveiled the Facebook Platform. This launch revolutionized how applications can and would be written to integrate with Facebook's social network. The Facebook Platform provides several ways that developer's can write applications what leverage and integrate with Facebook. The Facebook Platform introduced the concept of "Canvas" applications. Canvas applications are Web applications written by third parties that run within the Facebook platform and appear to users as if they are actually part of the Facebook Web site. Canvas applications provide different integration points for the application developer to promote their application and leverage the social network.

Since the original release, Facebook has continued to update the Platform and provide new and different ways for Facebook Developers to use the platform and the data that Facebook makes available. "Canvas" applications today have many different integration points than the original "canvas" applications of the Facebook platform.

In addition, Facebook has continued to expand its REST APIs and privacy policies to provide more data and more ways for applications to publish the data they generate.

Facebook Platform Core Components
Facebook Platform comprises a number of core components, including:

o The API, which consists of a number of methods that let you add social context to your applications.
o FBML, Facebook Markup Language, which allows you to integrate your application into Facebook.
o XFBML, an extension to FBML, which lets you incorporate FBML into Facebook Connect sites and IFrame applications.
o FQL, Facebook Query Language, which lets you quickly and easily query for Facebook user data without using the API.
o FBJS, Facebook's method for letting developers incorporate JavaScript into their application

Points to Solve Indexing Problems

I’ve outlined certain possibilities to the website not getting indexed:

(a) Your site was temporarily unavailable when the Googlebot was passing through.

(b) Your website has drastic errors – This includes having dead links or orphaned pages that are not allowing the Googlebot to crawl through all the pages of your website.

(c) Javascript or Flash is “un-crawlable” – The Googlebot may have trouble following links in Javascript or Flash meaning pages of your website may be excluded in the Google index. This means, your website contains Nofollow or Robots.txt code placed in the website.

(d) You are black listed – Google has the power to omit your website from their search results if they believe you are doing something illegitimate to boost your PageRank. Illegitimate practices include: Cloaking – having text/links on your website that are invisible to browsers, Over-use of Keywords – repeating keywords artificially to boost keyword count, Duplicating material etc.

(e) Your page may not be relevant to the search terms you want- if the content of your webpages are not relevant to your keywords, your pages won’t appear in search engine results.

Your website may be indexed but not appearing in search engine results due to poor performance. You can check if this is the case by searching for your URL as the keyword. For example, if your URL is www dot example dot com, enter “www dot example dot com” as your search keyword query. If your website appears in the search engine results, then you are indexed.

Microsoft’s Next-Gen Zune Digital Media Player Begins to Take Shape.

Microsoft Corp. on Tuesday disclosed the first official details regarding its next-generation portable digital media player. As expected, the new Zune HD will feature touch-screen, high-definition radio tuner as well as a new version of Windows CE operating system and revamped Internet browser.

Microsoft indicated that Zune HD will use flash memory, even though the company will continue to ship its Zune versions with hard disk drives. In addition, Zune HD will be equipped with OLED multi-touch screen with 3.3" diagonal and 480x272 resolution. Unfortunately, no additional technical details have been revealed: capacity and pricing of flash memory inside Zune is unknown; it is also unclear whether the new Zune HD supports 802.11n Wi-Fi or relies on older-generation 802.11g.

The main feature that will distinguish Zune from its competitors, such as Apple iPod Touch, will be HD radio, which provides high-quality music experience. By contrast, Apple iPod does not support any radio at all. Another important feature of Zune HD is gradual integration of Xbox Live and Zune store services into one. For example, the device will be able to output video in 1280x720 resolution (720p) to HDTVs.

“It’s really one of the first portable HD radio receivers out there. It’s going to be important for us to communicate the value of HD radio since it is a fairly nascent technology,” claimed Mr. Stephenson.

Microsoft Zune HD will be released in early Fall, however, its pricing is yet to be unveiled.
